Metaphors of Movement
~A Journey Toward Healing & Awakening~

Have you ever wondered if there’s more to life – more to YOU – than what can be seen or measured? Most people have.
Could there be much more to life that we don’t see because, as the Sages say, most of us are spiritually asleep?
If so, what would it be like to fully awaken and to truly see?
From as far back as we can know human beings have wondered: Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going?
Perhaps seeking answers to these questions is what really makes us human.
Almost all of the spiritual traditions – from ancient times to present day – portray the awakening process as a journey inward along a path. This journey depicts your movement toward that “Something-Greater-Than-Me” we somehow seem to know exists.
The stories may vary somewhat, but all agree on one common theme; it’s the path to Oneness and to Peace.
I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t want Peace of Mind; whatever that means to them. All living creatures want to be okay and to know they’re not alone.
The journey within, while metaphoric, is a very real journey indeed. And whether or not you’re aware of it, you’re traveling along this journey every moment of your life.
We all are.
And like all journeys, there’s the beginning, the movement, and the destination. Do you know where you are now, in what direction you’re moving, and how to get to where you really want to go?
If not, wouldn’t it be great to have a clearer understanding of what may be the most important aspect of your life?
Have you ever caught yourself or someone else saying things like:
I feel like I’m lost in the dark…
I can’t see where my life is going…
I feel like I’m living in total chaos…
I need to find peace, but I don’t know how…
There’s got to be more to life than this…
I take one step forward and two steps back…
I feel like I’m on a journey to nowhere…
My life is an uphill battle…
These aren’t just cliches. They’re metaphoric descriptions of real internal struggles. And they’re vital clues that, when understood, hold the key to release from the traps that can (and do) keep some people stuck for a lifetime.
Your Inner World is Made Up of Metaphors.
And the structure of that world is evident in your behaviors and language patterns. These metaphors have distinct qualities and characteristics including boundaries, textures, various climates and multiple dimensions – just as you would expect of any material landscape – but with some startling exceptions.
The metaphoric world exists within the universe of imagination.
So, unlike the denser 3-D world of stuff, where pesky things like gravity and aerodynamics rule, in the universe of imagination, such rules don’t exist. And, unlike the 3-D world of stuff, the world of metaphor and imagination isn’t limited to just three dimensions.
Hence, anything is possible there.
The trick is to learn how to uncover your metaphors and make them visible. Then you can see the path guiding your life more clearly, and change the elements as needed.
While your own metaphors and their meanings are as unique as you are, there are some intriguingly similar themes that many of us have in common. They’re frequently encountered in the ancient spiritual and mythological literature, and in the experience of students of this Metaphor of Movement model.
Do you know what your metaphors are – and what they mean to you?
Here’s a list of just a few you may find as you journey along your path:
- Wilderness
- Water
- Ships
- Gates
- Keys
- Temples
- Mountains
- Guides
- Gold
- Gems
- Light
Exploring the metaphors of your inner world can be the key to discovering more about who you really are, where you’re going, and how to get there.
Based on observations from many people who actively explore their metaphoric landscapes, here are some of the insights you might expect to be revealed when you engage in this process:
Where you are on your path now.
Finding your way out of the ‘dark.’
Is there a shorter or faster way to get to your destination?
What would it be like to have a roadmap?
Maybe there’s an Intelligence within you that knows the way, and will guide you along your journey.
Discovering your connection to your Higher Self, to other beings – and to the Universe.
How to establish contact with what is often referred to as God or Divine Intelligence.
How to turn your life struggles into advantages that move you along your path.
How mundane moments in life can become unique opportunities for growth.
How to experience states of awareness that might otherwise take years of meditation and practice.
Insights into emotional and physical health issues – maybe even solutions.
Empower yourself and others for real change by understanding the language of metaphor.
All of this – and much more – is possible when you have a model like Metaphors of Movement to gain a clearer picture of your inner landscape.
